This project was an exercise in absorbing other people's perceptions and retellings of who you are. Students read and discussed a psychology article, a magical realism short story, and watched a short documentary about the surrealist exquisite corpse. Students wrote down a description about themselves. Playing the children's game of telephone, their self-descriptions were adulterated and changed as they were whispered from person to person. Based off the resulting false narrative, they made a collage self-portrait in cardboard.
